San Bernardino Kiwanis
Tournament Recap--(Jan. 2, 2000)

Despite the absence of San Bernardino County powers Rialto Eisenhower (at the Nike Prep Classic in San Diego, and Fontana (at the Best in the West),  the 16-team San Bernardino Kiwanis Tournament, played from Monday through Thursday last week was one of the more potent fields among the local tournaments played. The tournament included San Bernardino Pacific (Chino Hills Ayala Tournament finalist) and Rialto (Riverside JW North Tournament champion) as well as San Bernardino Cajon (Riverside Kiwanis Tournament champion), Redlands, Ontario Etiwanda  (last year's Kiwanis champion) and Victorville and Victorville Victor Valley.  Here are the results from last week, at least the ones we were able to get our hands on.  If you have a result that is not included, send us an e-mail, and we'll include the score here:

Monday First Round Games

Cajon 73, Silverado 65-- Cajon trailed 2-0 but never again in a 73-65 victory Monday over Silverado at San Bernardino San Gorgonio High. Though it was never a blowout, the Cowboys held a comfortable lead -- eight to 12 points -- for most of the game. The Cowboys (10-1) thwarted the Hawks' trademark, full-court press with solid ball-handling and superior quickness from its guards. On defense, it denied Silverado second shots. Cajon outrebounded Silverado 39-22. Roby scored a game-high 29 points, including four three-pointers, to pace the Cowboys. Silverado's Jeremiah Phillips scored the first basket of the fourth quarter to pull the Hawks within 51-46, but Roby scored six consecutive points and Cajon used an 8-0 run to extend the lead to 59-46.
