San Bernardino-Riverside All-Star
Game Highlights--(Mar. 27, 2000)

This past Friday night, while the All-Stars were hooping it up in Pasadena at Muir HS, there was another All-Star game taking place about 30 miles to the east, specifically the 13th Annual San Bernardino-Riverside County All-Star game at Cajon HS.   An not that it matters much but the San Bernardino County all-stars defeated Riverside County, 124-89.  Standout performers were Rialto's David Joiner who scored 25 points, grabbed eight rebounds and was named the game's Most Valuable Player. Michael Hall of Pacific, who has signed with Pepperdine scored 24 points. James Phillips of Temecula Valley led the Riverside team with 24 points, and Beaumont's Tory Cohn added nine. San Bernardino twice led by more than 20 points in the first half, but Riverside rallied to close within 12 points by halftime. However, San Bernardino outscored Riverside 66-43 in the second half to put the game away. Heres' the complete scoring: RIVERSIDE (89) -- Mativa 10, Phillips 24, Hampton 12, Mims 9, Downey 3, Cohn 9, Larsen 7, Ware 15.  SAN BERNARDINO (124) -- Rouzan 10, Walker 7, Kimble 8, Smith 7, Hall 24, Sconiers 3, Joiner 25, Genung 7, Morton 10, Beck 18, Dillon 5. Halftime score -- San Bernardino 58-46. Three-point goals -- Phillips 4, Hampton, Downey, Cohn, Larsen, Rouzan, Hall 3, Beck 4, Dillon.

And in the girls' game, Riverside North's Angella Zanini scored 23 points in the second half but Rialto Eisenhower's Monique Marquez sank three free throws in the final 25 seconds to give the San Bernardino all-stars a come-from-behind 81-79 victory. Alexis Pettway from Fontana Miller led San Bernardino with 21 points. Marquez scored 19 and Trimeka Edwards, also from Eisenhower, had 12. Riverside Poly's Monica Gerger scored 12 and Riverside Norte Vista's Mindy Irby had 10. Riverside trailed by 52-43 with 14 minutes left in the second half, but Zanini took over. She scored nine points in the next six minutes and Riverside went on a 22-4 run to take a 65-56 lead with 7:55 left. San Bernardino pulled close after that, but Zanini kept hitting shots to keep Riverside ahead by three or four points. Her three-pointer with 1:51 left made it 77-73.   Edwards followed with a layup and a three-pointer to put San Bernardino up, 78-77.  Zanini's final basket, which gave her a game-high 26 points, put Riverside up 79-78 with 27 seconds left. That set the stage for Marquez, however, who was fouled twice and made 3 of 4 free throws to give her team the win. Here's the final scoring: RIVERSIDE (79) -- Gordon 8, Zanini 26, Gerger 12, Irby 10, Duffield 3, Gray 3, Moore 8, Reedom 9. SAN BERNARDINO (81) -- Edwards 12, Jiminez 8, Lehman 2, Pettway 21, Folker 3, Clark 9, Jones 6, Carter 1, Marquez 19. Halftime score -- San Bernardino 37-31. Three-point goals -- Gordon (R), Zanini (R) 2, Gray (R), Edwards (SB) 2, Jiminez (SB), Pettway (SB) 2, Marquez (SB).
