UCLA Administrative Assistant
Doug Erickson To Leave--(Apr. 17, 2000)

This won't mean a lot to many of you out there, but to those of us who got to know Doug Erickson over the years, it will mean something.   Doug has been an administrative assistant to the UCLA men's basketball program for the last eight years, a sometimes thankless job, and one that most people don't really appreciate.  He's the guy who makes a lot of the things that happen actually get done, whether it's breaking down film and tape, making travel arrangements, to virtually anything you can imagine having to do with basketball operations.  UCLA issued a press release today announcing that effective April 21, Doug will be leaving the Bruins' basketball team to enter into private business, the exact nature of which was not disclosed.  We want to say thanks to Doug for all the work he's done with the media (yeah, we know that's Bill Bennett's job, but Doug sometimes ran interference. . . ) and for doing such a great job.  Here's the press release:

Erickson To Enter Private Business
Last day is April 21

April 17, 2000

Doug Erickson, who has spent the last eight years as an Administrative Assistant for the UCLA men's basketball program, has resigned his position to enter private business. His final day will be this Friday, April 21.

During the last eight years, Erickson has been responsible for a variety of administrative tasks, including basketball operations, travel administrator, film/video coordinator and summer camp administrator.

After graduating from San Jose State in 1990, with a B. S. in economics, Erickson was employed as an accountant for two years by Cadence Design Systems in Silicon Valley.

Erickson, 33, was born and raised in Eureka, CA, where he lettered in basketball at Eureka HS. He comes from a basketball family. His father, Julian, played at Iowa State and later coached at Eureka HS and Humboldt State. His mother, Jean, has the distinction of playing in front of the largest crowd in Iowa High School women's basketball history (13,400). His older brother, Mike, played at Humboldt State and is the head coach at Piner HS in Santa Rosa. Younger brother, Alan, was a standout at Eureka HS and Humboldt State and currently plays professionally in Australia. Erickson's sister, Jolynn, was a star basketball and volleyball player at Eureka HS and is now a school teacher in Sacramento.
