adidas Double Pump Spring Tourney:
Friday (1st Day) Schedules--(April 5, 2000)

The first day of the adidas Double Pump Spring Tournament is Friday, April 7, and the games will get rolling at 3:00 p.m. The tournament will run for three days, with the first games, as mentioned, starting at 3:00 p.m. on Friday and the last game tipping off at 9:30 p.m. (which means it will end at around 11:00 p.m. Friday night) and then things will get going at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday morning, and continue on through until the last game tips off again at 9:45 p.m. (which projects out to about an 11:30 p.m. finish).  Sunday, things are a bit more pedestrian, and the tournament will get started at 9:00 a.m.

The Consolation championship and the Championship games will run concurrently at 4:30 p.m., so the tournament will project to end at about 6:00 p.m. on Sunday night, which is just about as much basketball as any human being can take for one weekend. . .

In short, this is a three day marathon of unbelievably talented high school players, a tournament which will feature at least 100 legitimate Division I players among all the juniors and underclassmen in attendance, and probably at least 25 high-major D-I guys.  If previous years are any indication, there will be college coaches from all over the country, and they'll also be drawn to the area to check out the Rockfish Spring League which is running concurrently just up the Harbor Freeway from Dominguez Hills at LACC.  Suffice it to say this will be a busy weekend.

As we did last year and the year before, we'll present the schedules in two different formats:  First by time in a chronological fashion, and then by team, alphabetically, so you can follow those teams you'll want to watch.   Since there are about 48 teams in this tournament, which has to be completed in three days, there will be no "pool play."  The winners will advance to a winner's bracket, and the losers will advance to a losers bracket.  A lot of AAU coaches can't figure it out if it's not pool play, but it's really very easy.  You either win, or you lose, that's just the way it goes.  If you drop a game, forget competing for the title.  You might win the consolation, but not the overall championship.  But then who wins or loses in these things is really hardly the point. . . it's the exposure, and what you end up playing for is "prime time", i.e., a better time for the coaches to see you than if you were playing at a time when, say, the coaches are either in bed or completely burned out. . .

Here's the schedule, chronologically, by game number for the first day:

We'll post up the Saturday and Sunday schedules shortly so that players, coaches and others can get an idea of where and who they'll be playing depending on whether they win or lose these first games, but that's going to take a while to type it all in (should be up though shortly), but in the meantime, we thought everyone would at least like to see what's up for Friday.  See you there.
