Colleges Shouldn't Overlook Transfer
Prospects Like Jordan Harris--(May 4, 2000)

With all the news in the last few weeks of all late spring signings by some of the high school and JUCO players, there are often quality transfer students, who have been granted releases from other D-I schools who get lost in the shuffle or overlooked by many schools who would be well-advised to take a good, hard look at signing a transfer.   And time is rapidly running out, since the late spring signing period ends May 15, just 11 days from now.

We don't have any comprehensive list about who has been granted a release and is available for transfer, but maybe that's not such a bad idea. . . maybe we could start with Westchester alumni Tony Bland (6'-5" So. SG) from Syracuse who requested his release the other day, and who is rumored to be interested in joining his buddies from the State Championship team who are at USC (Brandon Granville and David Bluthenthal). . . .

Another player who has been granted his release, who we haven't seen in several years, but about whom we recently heard from an old friend,   Mike Miller (formerly of WestCoastHoops),  is Jordan Harris (6'-5" So. SG/SF) who originally played in high school at Brophy Prep in Phoenix, but who has been at Colgate University for the past two years.  Jordan has been granted a release and from what we understand would like to come back out west.  This past season he averaged 14 points and 7 rebounds per game and made all-Patriot League. He has developed into a pretty high level player, and while a lot of these same west coast schools seem to be frantically looking for players to fill out scholarships  (some of them lesser players than Jordan), this would be a good time for schools like Portland State, New Mexico, UCSB, and other similar WCC and WAC schools to take a serious look at signing a player of his caliber.    While we've heard about several quality schools interested (including some of the above),  as the next 11 days click off the calendar, Jordan will have to start making some decisions, which will of course impact on what other schools are able to get involved.

As we said, we haven't seen Jordan in a while, but Mike seems to feel he's "likely to be an all-WCC level player" and could perhaps even be a "starter in the Pac-10, he's that good."   Sounds like a good endorsement.
