Palm Desert/Cathedral City Summer Classic:
Saturday Bracket Results--(June 17, 2000)

What:   Desert Cities Summer Classic Tournament
Where:   Cathedral City HS, Palm Desert HS,
When:   June 16-18
Who:   24 Top High School Teams

We received another e-mail from Neil McElroy, assistant boy's varsity coach at Cathedral City, who again had some (but not all) of the results from the Desert Cities Summer Classic Tournament...Here's what happened, and what's up for tomorrow morning:

Good evening! Neil McElroy from Cathedral City again with the information I have on the Silver, Bronze, and Gold brackets today. Again, I'm sorry to say that information is only partial, since we can't seem to contact Palm Desert's gym...

Bronze Bracket (Teams who finished in 3rd place in pool play):

West Valley defeated Indio
Beaumont defeated Bishop Diego.
Beaumont defeated West Valley
Bishop Diego defeated Indio

Beaumont will play the winner of the lower half of the bracket, which was played at Palm Desert today. It will be either 29 Palms, Burbank, Calabasas, or Palm Springs. The championship game will be at noon, Sunday, at Cathedral City HS, in the Aux. gym.

Silver Bracket (Teams who finished 2nd in pool play):

Banning defeated Big Bear
Fullerton defeated Norwalk
Banning defeated Fullerton
Big Bear defeated Norwalk.
MLKing defeated West Shores
Anaheim defeated Serrano
MLKing defeated Anaheim
Serrano defeated West Shores

Banning will play MLKing for the championship of the bracket at noon, Sunday, at Palm Desert HS. Fullerton will play Anaheim for 3rd place in the bracket (11 AM at PDHS), and Big Bear will play Serrano in the consolation game at 10AM at PDHS.

Gold Bracket (Teams who finished 1st in pool play):

Ayala defeated Chaminade
Victor Valley defeated Cathedral City
Ayala defeated Victor Valley
Chaminade defeated Cathedral City

Ayala will play in the championship game of the bracket, and the tournament,  at noon, Sunday in Cathedral City's main gym. They will play the winner of the lower half of the bracket, played today at Palm Desert HS. It will be either Canyon (Valencia), Canyon (Anaheim), Palm Desert, or Ocean View. Victor Valley will play one of those 4 teams at 11AM at CCHS for 3rd place, Chaminade will play one of them for 5th at 10AM at CCHS, and Cathedral City will play one of those four for 7th place at 9AM at CCHS.

I know this is somewhat confusing, but the basketball has been great, and will continue to be the same tomorrow! Come see us..the gym is cool, and the basketball is hot!
