Mats Madness: Monsters Of The Midway
Roster & Results--(June 1, 2000)

This is one of those teams where we feel really hesitant to say much about because while we've seen them several times, including many of their players who have played for different teams in the past, we just didn't get to see them at all this trip. Likewise, we've also seen some of coach Dave Bloomfield's earlier incarnations of the Monsters of the Midway teams enough to know that notwithstanding who says they're going to play (and thus who is listed on the roster) sometimes with kids you just never know. Nevertheless, here's who was listed as playing on this team even though we're pretty sure that a couple of them weren't in attendance:

Adam Drell   6'-7" Sr. F   Chatsworth
Andrew Bloomfield   6'-3" Sr. G   LA Baptist
Charlie Shiebler   6'-1" Jr. G   Crespi
Derrick O'Dwyer   6'-3" Jr. G/F   Crespi
Paul Angel   6'-3" Jr. G/F   Crespi
Daniel Acuna   5'-10" Sr. G   Crespi
Rene Shabastari   6'-9" So. F   Granada Hills
Austin Nicholson   5'-10" So. G   LA Baptist
Scottie Stern   6'-4" Sr. SG/SF   Fairfax
Clint Hamblin   6'-2" Sr. SG   Village Christian
Mike Madigan   6'-3" Jr. G/F   LA Baptist
Jesse Bronner   6'-3" Sr. G/F   Montclair Prep

We don't know about most of the juniiors listed, but we're willing to bet that Adam Drell didn't make the trip up, and we have questions about whether Scottie Stern, Clint Hamblin or Jesse Bronner were there either because even though we didn't watch this team, had they been there we're sure we would heard something from someone  about how they played.  But all of this is just supposition on our part since we really don't know.  MOM did manage to go 2-1 in pool play, winning their first game against NorCal Elite 84-54, but then getting hammered 99-41 by Clovis West with Chris Hernandez and Charlie Rodriguez and the rest of the really talented State D-I championship runners-up.  In their final game, they apparently beat BBT, 88-46, which would have given them a 2-1 record, but the scorers recorded them as 1-2, which meant they finished third and thus in the Bronze Division with the rest of the third place teams.  Nevertheless, they managed to win one against the HoopRidaz #1 team in the first round, and then wound up losing in the quarterfinals to the Tigers (another local high school team from Fresno).  Since Andrew Bloomfield, coach Dave's son, is a graduating senior and will be moving on (and since Dave also helps coach at The Master's College anyway), we're not sure the Monsters of the Midway will be reconstituted later this summer. . . only time will tell.
