Chaminade's Scott Borchart Commits
To Santa Clara University--(Sept 25, 2000)

We received an e-mail this evening from Jeff Young, the head basketball coach at West Hills Chaminade, who wanted us to know that Scott Borchart (6'-8" Sr. PF) who gained his share of fame for not playing on the travel circuit the past two summers (the first because he chose not to do so, and the second time, this past summer due to injury), has given a verbal commitment to Santa Clara University head coach Dick Davey.   Scott took a visit to Santa Clara this past weekend and really enjoyed the school and the coaching staff, and he got a chance to spend some time with their current group of players.  This past spring, Borchart played very briefly with the Pump N Run team featuring Dustin Villepigue, Marques Crane, Jonathan Harper, Markee Lewis, Torin Beeler, Andrew Moore, David Gale and a couple of others, and while on that team he also got a chance to play with his future Bronco teammate from Oakland, Bakari Altheimer (5'-11" Sr. PG) from Oakland St. Elizabeth's who also gave a verbal to Santa Clara earlier this month.  In addition to kudos to coach Davey, assistant coach Sam Scuilli (Stanford '84) was also actively involved in Borchart's recruitment.

For a long time we've been trying to get a read on what Borchart's recruitment was like.  Last spring the schools that were showing the most interest were schools like Washington, Arizona, Cal, San Diego and Washington State, and recently coach Jim Harrick of Georgia visited the Chaminade campus.  Borchart, a skilled big man with some nice moves around the basket is one of the better big men to come out of the San Fernando Valley, and he should an immediate impact player at Santa Clara next season, since they lose their two tallest seniors to graduation, and Borchart and freshman Jim Howell at 6'-8" will be the two biggest guys on the team.
