CSUN Official Release On Signings Of
Joe Frazier & Ian Boylan--(Nov. 16, 2000)

We mentioned this the first day we heard about it from our sources at Northridge, but it's taken a couple of days for CSUN to actually get around to issuing an official press release on these two signings.  But here it is:

csunbanner.jpg (4986 bytes)Cal State Northridge head menšs basketball coach Bobby Braswell has announced the first two signings of his fifth full recruiting class in Joseph Frazier and Ian Boylan. The pair are the only two expected to sign in the early period. Northridge graduates seven seniors at the end of 2000-01 season, but will likely retain the services of Jermar Welch for a fifth year.

Frazier, a 6-3, 175-pound guard/forward out of Pasadena, Calif., is the 20th recruit to sign a National Letter of Intent with the Matadors during the Braswell era and the first signee of the early signing period. "Joseph is a young man who we are very excited about and the abilities he brings to this basketball program and family," Braswell said. "He is a tremendous athlete and a good scorer with good defensive skills. He was absolutely the quickest athlete I saw during our entire recruiting period. Hešs going to have a chance to play a lot as a freshman." Last season as a junior at John Muir High School, Frazier led his team to a 24-6 record while averaging 15.0 points and 8.0 rebounds per game for head coach Don Grant. Frazier is ranked as the fourth-best shooting guard on the West Coast. As the team's Most Valuable Player, Frazier guided Muir High to the semifinals of the state playoffs. He was named first-team All-Pacific League for his efforts. He plans on majoring in business at Cal State Northridge. Frazier selected the Matadors over UC Irvine, Cal State Fullerton, UC Santa Barbara and UC Riverside.

Boylan, a 6-6, 205-pound guard/forward out of Norman, Okla., is the 21st recruit to sign a National Letter of Intent with the Matadors during the Braswell era and the second to sign during the early period. "We are also thrilled that Ian is joining our basketball program and family," Braswell said. "He has the size and frame to fill the void we will need to continue and build on our success. He is a very intelligent player that can score in many different ways. He will also have an opportunity to play a lot as a freshman. He is a good passer that is very skilled around the basket and is a great shooter that will fit in well with our style of play." Last season as a junior at Norman High School, Boylan guided his team to a 22-6 record while averaging 17.0 points and 6.0 rebounds per game and 3.5 assists per game for head coach Mark Van Curen. As the teamšs Most Valuable Player, Boylan guided Norman High to the state finals. He was named first-team All-Mid State Conference and also the league's Defensive Player of the Year.
