Tournaments Today: What's Happening
Around SoCal--(Dec. 22, 2000)

With the conclusion of the Rim Rattler Holiday Invitational Tournament last night, and the Powerade Las Vegas Holiday Prep Classic as well, it seems that those were the only two tournaments we were focusing on. . . .well, that's sort of true, but not really.  We actually have a ton of tournament results and other non-league games from Monday through Thursday to post which have been piling up in our working files that we're editing frantically to finish. . . but that still doesn't answer the question, if you are a high school hoops junkie, of what else is there to watch tonight and tomorrow night here in Southern California. . . and there are a few tournaments still going on right now.  Here's what we know:

Calvary Chapel Downey Grizzly Classic

The finals are today.  Calvary Chapel will play Western Christian in the finals at 7:30 p.m. at CC Downey.  The 7th place game will feature St. Anthony v. Mary Star and that will tip off at 3:00 p.m.  Whittier Christian plays Brethren Christian at 4:30 p.m.

Salesian Tournament

The Salesian tournament also concludes today.   St. John Bosco will play San Francisco Richmond at 7:30 p.m. at Salesian.   Other games will precede.

Trabuco Hills Reebok Holiday Classic

If you are out near Trabuco Hills, the semifinals will take place today, and one of those games will feature Carson v. host Trabuco Hills at 7:30 p.m.  Laguna Hills plays Santa Margarita in the other semifinal at 9:00 p.m. (yes, it's kind of a late tip-off).  If you are free this afternoon at 3:00 p.m. one of the consolation games features Bakersfield Stockdale (Central Section) vl. Costa Mesa at 3:00 p.m..  Hoover will play Chadwick at 4:30 p.m. and AB Miller HS will play Aliso Niguel at 6:00 p.m.

SLO Mission Prep Holiday Prep Classic

If you are up in the northern reaches of the Southern Section, and want to see some great teams, then you'll definitely want to check out this tournament, which will be playing the semifinals.  One of those games will feature Artesia v. Crenshaw at 7:30 p.m.

Arroyo Grande Tournament

One other alternative if you are up in Santa Maria (just below the SLO area), and want to check out another excellent game, then you'll want to see Ocean View take on LA Taft HS and soph Stephen Smith at 5:30 p.m.. . . .if you drive quickly, you can then make the Artesia v. Crenshaw game. . .

Irvine World News Tournament

Closer to home, the Irvine World News is sponsoring a tournament that's been going on all week at Northwood and Irvine high schools, and the semifinals are tonight.  Woodbridge is @ Northwood at 7:30 p.m. and St. Paul is @ Irvine at 7:30 p.m.  Hard to be in two places at once, so you'll have to decide.

Inland Empire Stuff

There are several tournaments taking place around the Inland Empire, but unfortunately we don't have the schedules for them. . . tournaments like the Hemet Mustang Shootout, the San Bernardino Shootout, and some others. . . if anyone has a schedule of what's happening, send it in or post it on the message board.

La Canada Tournament

There are two consolation games tonight (the finals are tomorrow at La Canada).  We have no idea who is playing, but the games are at 6:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. tonight at La Canada HS

In non-league action:

Long Beach Millikan @ Doweney  7:00 p.m.
Warren @ LB Cabrillo 7:00 p.m.
Katella @ Sunny Hills  7:00 p.m.
John Glenn @ Loara  7:00 p.m.
Corona del Mar @ Fullerton 7:00 p.m.
Anaheim @ Santa Ana 7:00 p.m.
Western @ Orange 7:00 p.m.
Westminster @ La Quinta (Westminster) 7:00 p.m.

Santa Ana Valley @ Sonora  7:30 p.m.
Kennedy (OC) @ Magnolia 7:30 p.m.
Brea Olinda @ El Dorado  7:30 p.m
Cypress @ Savanna 7:30 p.m.
