San Diego Section Boys' Playoff
Update--Winners & Losers--(Feb. 22, 2001)
The San Diego Section has started its playoffs, and there has been action in all the divisions except III and IV, which won't start until Saturday. In all the divisions, it looks like most of the high seeds are still alive and in it. Here's a look at each of the brackets, updated through today.
The top four seeds are still alive and this Division will be playing the quarterfinals tomorrow night (Friday,2/23). No. 1 Torrey Pines easily beat Mt. Miguel (a wild card winner on Tuesday), while the rest of the bracket is set forth below. Here's the bracket (which can also be found at the San Diego Section's own official website).
Here are the scores from
The Monday wild-card games:
Mt. Miguel 64, Valhalla 56
Bonita Vista 64, West Hills 56
Morse 75, Calexico 57
Rancho Buena Vista 79, Southwest 65
The first round was played on Wednesday, and here are the scores:
No. 1 Torrey Pines 65, Mt. Miguel 32
Hilltop 69, El Capitan 67
Scripps Ranch 63, Helix 48
No. 4 Montgomery 53, Bonita Vista 48
No. 3 Oceanside 68, Morse 52
San Diego 52, Mt. Carmel 35
No. 2 Carlsbad 76, Rancho Buena Vista 58
This is a 16 team bracket, which started off with 14 teams, and is now down to just 8, with the Quarterfinals set for Saturday night. No. 1 Eastlake is still alive and will play Mission Bay, while No. 2 Kearney wil play San Pasqual. As with the other San Diego playoff divisions, this bracket can also be found at at the San Diego Section's own official website.
On Wednesday in the first round, Mission Bay defeated El
Cajon Valley and will now play No. 1 Eastlake.
University City defeated Brawley 51-50, and will play LaJolla, which beat Central Union 77-46 (seems the Imperial Valley schools get wiped out early even though they're no longer in the Southern Section). Serra will play Ramona also in another quarterfinal. Serra beat Pt. Loma, and Ramona beat Santana. Finally, No. 2 Kearney will play San Pasqual which beat Escondido 85-84 in double-overtime
Like some of the smaller divisions in Southern Section, Division III in San Diego is really small. This is only an 8 team bracket, but there are only 5 teams in it, and two of them are already in the semifinals given the fact that No. 3 Valley Center and No. 3 Clairemont both have first round byes on February 24, and there is only one first round game, scheduled for Saturday, February 24 between #4 Madison and Crawford. The winner will play St. Augustine. . . . No USDHS this year. . .
Another one of those smallish brackets, rivaling Division IV-A in Southern Section, this one has just 7 teams. No.1 Christian gets a bye in the first round, which is scheduled for Saturday, February 24. Here's the bracket:
This is a 16 team bracket with 14 teams, and the top two teams receiving byes.
On Wednesday night here's what happened:
Borrego Springs 73, Midway Baptist 53-- Borrego advances to
play No. 1 Santa Fe
La Jolla Country Day beat Calvin Christian and advances to play Tri-City Christian on Saturday.
Tri-City beat Lutheran 81-43.
Calipatria beat Warner 80-14, and will now play Marian Catholic, which beat West Shores 77-43.
