Boys Thursday First Round &
Second Round Game Results--(Feb. 16, 2001)

Ok, so there were a few games played yesterday, very few, and they all resulted from scheduling changes, including one which we didn't even know about, which was Canyon Springs v. Arcadia in the Division I-AAA playoffs (it make our preview of the game look pretty good, since we picked the right team). . . Here's what happened.

Division I-AAA

Canyon springs 71, Arcadia 41-- Canyon Springs was led by Jason Braxton with 18 points, Richard Cobbs with 17 (guess he's all better now), Tron Smith 12, Brandon Woods 2, Carlton Amwine 8, Alphonso James 6, Derrick Rispers 2, Mike Gaimes 4.  For Arcadia (13-14) they finish the season with no one scoring more than 9 points (Leo Thornton had 9),.  Others were Aaron Wilkerson 7, Aaron Anderson 2, Ryan Newton 2, Brent Dohling 6, Donte Owens 9, and Chris Handy 6.  Canyon Springs now moves on and will play the winner of the Lakewood v. Oxnard game.

Division 1AA

Murrieta Valley 63, Redlands 57--Murrieta Valley will advance to the second round and will play either Palmdale or University on Tuesday.  The Nighthawks went on an 11-5 run in the final four minutes of the fourth quarter to get the win. Dan Larsen had 17 points to lead the Nighthawks. REDLANDS (57) -- Parsha 13, Porter 8, Roberts 16, Burgan 8, Graham 10.  MURRIETA VALLEY (63) -- Larsen 17, Mejia 3, Ricks 10, Campbell 11, Richardson 9, Rider 7, Linsley 6. Halftime score -- Murrieta Valley 34-26. Three-point goals -- Roberts, Larsen, Mejia, Ricks, Richardson. Total fouls -- Murrieta Valley 13, Redlands 15. Fouled out -- None. Records: Murrieta Valley 17-9.

Division II-AA

Santa Margarita 66, Tustin 39-- SM is now 22-4, still the No. 2 ranked team in Orange County, the No. 2 seed in their bracket, and likely to meet Inglewood in the semifinals and Dominguez in the finals if everything goes according to the bracket, and Tustin was just a bump in the road last night.  SM jumped out to a 17-8 first quarter lead, and then held Tustin to just 3 points in the second quarter, to lead 33-11 at the half.   RJ Socci had 4, Travis Smith 12, Brandon Rohe 10, Lenny Collins a game high 14 points, and Adam Tancredi had 9.  Hubbard 3, Toch 3, Quijano 7, J. Collins 2, and Hayden Socci 2.   Tustin was led by Ricky Miller with 8, and ends the season with an 11-15 record. Santa Margarita will play either Kennedy or Los Amigos in the second ournd on Tuesday.

Division IV-A

Crossroads 75, Milken 35-- Admitttedly, we weren't there, and can't find any report on this game in any of the local newspapers.  But it's the score that is listed at the official CIF-SS site, so it must be correct.

Division V-AA

Rolling Hills Prep 74, Valley Torah 62-- Curtis Allen scored 24 points as Rolling Hills Prep knocked off Valley Torrah, 74-64, in the only second round game played yesterday.  The only details we have on this one come from the Daily Breeze's online site, and they didn't post anything about the Valley Torah guys.   Likewise, there was no box score in the either the LA Times or the Daily News, and thus we have nothing on Valley Torah which finished out the season with the loss.   Jason Daley scored 17 points and Kyle Rose had 15 points for the Huskies (18-5), who advance to play Calvary Chapel Downey or Pasadena Poly in the next round. . .
