CIF D-V Boys State SoCal Regional:
First Round Scores & Details--(Mar. 7, 2001)

Division V

Price 74, Mission Prep 59-- Not surprisingly, there was absolutely nothing on this game in the LA Times, which is kind of strange considering that this Price team maintains its home less than 5 miles down Vermont from the LA Times downtown headquarters, and the Price Knights are the defending State Champions in this division. . . but then why should anything be different for this game than it has been for most of the season?   We also expected to find something about the game in the San Luis Obispo Telegram-Tribune, but no dice either. . . maybe there was a story about the game in the print version of the paper, but since we're not in San Luis Obispo (which is where Mission Prep is located) we can't tell, because there was nothing online.

Kilpatrick 89, Santa Fe Christian 74--Keilon Fortune scored 36 points to lead CIF Southern Section D-V runner-up Kilpatrick (27-2) to the win over host Santa Fe Christian (24-5). Fortune had four three-pointers as the Mustangs outscored SFC 20-8 in the third quarter. Craig Buell (6'-5" Sr. F), who will attend Stanford next year on a volleyball scholarship, scored 22 points for the Eagles.    Kilpatrick: Keilon Fortune 37, Javier Dena 20 and 10 rebounds and 4 steals, LaCoste 19, Townsend 2, LaPorte 2, Mora 8 and 4 steals, Williams 2.  Santa Fe Christian--Ulric 17, Buell 22, Mike Carlson 21, Millside 4, Sinclair 3, Corso 7.  Kilpatrick --19  20  20 30--89;  Santa Fe--17  19  8  30--74.  Records: Kilpatrick 27-2;   Santa Fe Christian 24-5.

Calvary Chapel Downey 74, Marian Catholic 57-- Junior point guard Tim Drisdom scored 24 points, had 7 rebounds and 6 asissts to lead the Grizzlies to the first round win on Tuesday night over visiting Marian Catholic.    Calvary Chapel (28-4) led for most of the game, but in the final 5 minutes, Marian Catholic pulled to within 4 points, 51-47.   But then the Grizzlies again applied some offensive pressure and in the next minute and a half went on an 11-0 run.   Two minutes later, they led 70-50 after going on another run, this time 19-3.   Matt Henderson finished with 19 points and 16 rebounds while Jonathan James added 10 points for Calvary Chapel. For Marian Catholic (10-20), Michael Scott had 15 points, and Jacques Lindsey added 13 points.

Immanuel 93, Antelope Valley Christian 47-- Immanuel thoroughly dominated Antelope Valley Christian, exploding for a 32-6 first quarter lead, and at the end of the first quarter, the game was largely over. Immanuel hosts Calvery Chapel Downey on Thursday in the semifinals.  With a running, slashing offense and a swarming press, Immanuel ran up leads of 15-3 and 27-4. Jacob Wild scored 10 points in the first quarter before leaving the game with an injured thumb. He went for medical treatment immediately after the game and his status for Thursday was not known. Kyle Madeiros scored 12 points in the second quarter,  and Ryan Jackson scored 22 points.  Madeiros finished with 19 on the night.  The Immanuel defense was so thoroughly effective that Jamal Flanagan, who came into the playoffs averaging 25 ppg, was held tojust 3 at the half.   Flanagan finished with 19 in the second half, but behind AVC's dismal first half performance, on 7-24 shooting, it hardly made a difference in the outcome. Ten players scored for Immanuel. AVC--Jamal Flanagan 22 and 8 rebounds, John Cho 11, Redford 8, Picket 2, Yoo 2, DeFrancis 2.   Immanuel--Jackson 22, Medeiros 19, Wild 10, Heinrichs 9, Scott 9, A. Warkentin 8, J. Warkentin 6, Bennett 5, Garcia 3, Helgesen 2.  Immanuel--32  20  21   20--93;  AVC--6  12  16  13--47.  Records: AVC  22-8;   Immanuel 24-4.
