Reach, Reach, Reach & More
College Summer League--(May 21, 2001)

The Say No College League isn't the only game in town.  It's probably the most well known of the local college-level summer leagues, featuring the highest-profile players, but there are still other options if you aren't invited to play in the Say No.  In fact, if you're still looking to get recruited by the time summer rolls around, you might want to consider the "Reach, Reach, Reach & More" Summer League. And if you've already signed, this is a great way to get ready for next season.

Some of you out there will remember Harvey Needleman, a wonderful man (with one of the weirdest telephone answering messages you'd ever want to hear). . .Harvey was the driving force behind the league when it first started, and he was everywhere. . coaching college players, high school players, hanging out in gyms, working with kids, every day.   Harvey died a few years ago, but he was instrumental in getting the Reach, Reach, Reach & More League off the ground, and even though he's not here any longer, others have taken up where he's left off.  Some of those have included Dave Bloomfield, Ralph Turner, Ernest Baskerville, and David Wilson.

This past week, we received an e-mail from David & Jennifer Wilson, who are now running the league (with a lot of help from some local coaches) Jennifer sent us the league's current flyer and a "Letter to Coaches".   Rather than paraphrase we'll just post them below.

And here's the "Letter To Coaches":

Dear Coaches, 5/14/01

A vision is a dream , and dreams are goals with time limits

As the foundation moves into its 6th season of operations, our visions are clear for the continuous creative mode for success. I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you to Coach Lynch of Price High School, and Coach Nurse of Antelope Valley Christian High School. These Coaches / fathers gave the foundation their greatest support by enrolling their sons into our Summer Jam 2000. I would also like to say thank you to Coach Baskerville from (LACES) program for coaching one of our free agent teams in the Summer Jam 2000. Also a very special thank you to Coach Turner and Assistant Coach Conner of Canoga Park High School for their support and the usage of their facilities to hold the Summer Jam 2000. In addition Coach Conner has been named Vice President of High School operations.

With the joint efforts of all involved, we were able to place thirty-two student-athletes nationwide with scholarships. We are proud to say this is the second year, the program has run year round. Our year around training program began in November 2000 with conditioning and led to our marketing in January 2001 to universities nationwide, which ranges through all divisions 1 – NAIA. The total number of colleges on our marketing list is 1,308. Our marketing strategies are available to your graduating senior of 2001 at no cost to yourself or the students. We are a non-profit foundation dedicated to the positive flight of student-athletes. If your students have already signed we can still help to prepare them for their up and coming season through our highly structured workouts for the demands of basketball.

The process must start now. This is a personal invitation for the students to beging a marketing packet.  The window of opportunity will close very quickly for spring / summer recruitment. Open enrollment is underway for The 2001 Summer Jam developmental basketball league. It is imperative the students sign up now, for the workouts have already begun to prepare for summer league. Workouts are held every Sunday night from 6:30 pm to 9:30 pm at Canoga Park High School. Coach, by working together we can ensure a good head start for the student –athlete. Here at the Reach, Reach, Reach and more Foundation our philosophy is simple: we don’t motivate the students out of fear but out of their ability to accept change. We will not give them the fish but rather teach them how to fish to attain their own visions and dreams.

Enclosed is our flayer for the 2001 Summer Jam [Ed. Note: See Above].  Please contact me ASAP through e-mail or by phone for further information about our foundation and the summer league. All we want to do is work hard. The minute we stop working hard, is the minute that God could take this all away.

Sincerely, (818) 752 - 4128
