Fullerton College To Sponsor
"Sanctioned"  JUCO Showcase--(Sept 4, 2001)

D-I coaches interested in recruiting JUCO talent should get out their traveling shoes, pack their bags, and buy airline tickets to California.    Unlike the high school situation in California, the official JUCO association governing athletics in the State of California, the Commission on Athletics, has been quick to act and quicker to protect the interests of those players who might have a chance to earn themselves a Division I scholarship to a four-year college.  Apparently recognizing that for JUCO players and students, the ultimate goal is to get to a four year college, the COA has sanctioned what may be the only event of its kind in the country to receive official and formal approval from a governing JUCO athletics association.

Our friend Dieter Horton, the Head Men's Basketball Coach at Fullerton College, a local JC sent us an e-mail yesterday with the following news:

"I thought I would drop you a line and give you some information on my annual JUCO Showcase at Fullerton College. My state governing body (the COA) has sanctioned and approved my showcase this September 29 and 30. Under the new NCAA rules, this will allow Divsion I coaches to attend. We will already have over 30 D-II coaches there since that rule only applies to the D-I level. I will have a letter of sanctioning on our web site within the next 5-7 days that coaches can print up for their information. The NJCCAA will not sanction an event this fall, so according to my friends across the nation, this should be the only JC event in America that can be attended by D-I coaches this fall.

We'll have some additional information on this event shortly.  In the meantime, D-I college coaches should continue to check the Fullerton College website (where the COA sanctioning letter will appear) at this link.
