Jono Harper, Terrell Stovall Enrolled At
Xavier Lousiana--(Sept. 21, 2001)

We got a copy of an e-mail from the father of a former Long Beach Poly Jackrabbit today, and we thought we'd share his good news:  It seems that Jonathan "Jono" Harper (6'-5" Fr. G/F) who graduated from Long Beach Poly this past spring is now very happily enrolled and on the team at Xavier University of Louisiana in New Orleans.   We  were curious because we didn't know very much about this particular Xavier (it's not the one in Ohio which most people associate with the name "Xavier") so decided to check out the school's official athletics website to learn a little more about Xavier of Louisiana, located in New Orleans.

And what we found was a nice surprise, because we saw more than a few familiar names and faces from Southern California, including some of our other favorite players from the past few seasons of high school and club travel ball.   Players like Terrell Stovall (6'-2" Fr. G) from Inglewood, a tremendously quick shooting guard, one of the leading scorers last year for the Paladins club team and a solid leading scoring threat for CIF-SS finalist Inglewood.  We still remember the game in which Stovall scored something like 43 points against Dominguez in the finals of last year's Fullcourt Press Fall Hoops Classic.   Also on the roster at XUL is Terrell's Inglewood teammate Devin Davis (6'-2" Fr. G), as well as some other more veteran college players from SoCal, including Lamar Leslie (6'-3" Jr. G) from Los Angeles, David Egans (6'-5" Sr. F) and Brooke Hague-Ewing (6'-9" Jr. C) from Pasadena.  Six players in all from Southern California, which is quite a remarkable number of guys from the same area, when you stop to consider that they all chose to be at a school more than 3,000 miles from home.  Xavier of Louisiana is an NAIA school, a member of the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference, and with guys like Harper, Stovall and the others, they be just as good, if not better than last year's team, which finished 24-07, and was the  GCAC Co-Champions.

Congratulations to all of these guys, and good luck this season.
