Don't get confused: There will be two SCIBCA-affiliated coaching clinics this fall: The first will be held at LMU this Saturday, October 6. The second one that we know about will be held Saturday, November 3, 2001 at Pepperdine's Firestone Fieldhouse.

We just got the details from Pepperdine on their SCIBCA clinic, which looks like it will be very informative and interesting. Here's what we know:

PEPPERDINE TO HOST SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA INTERSCHOLASTIC
BASKETBALL COACHES ASSOCIATION CLINIC ON NOVEMBER 3

The Southern California Interscholastic Basketball Coaches Association (SCIBA) will host a coaches' clinic at Pepperdine University's Firestone Fieldhouse in Malibu on November 3.

The clinic begins at noon and continues until 4:30 p.m. A fee of $5 includes the clinic, lunch and admission to the Pepperdine men's and women's basketball exhibition games that evening.

Featured speakers at the clinic include first-year Pepperdine head men's basketball coach Paul Westphal; Pepperdine head women's basketball coach Mark Trakh; Pepperdine men's assistant basketball coaches Gib Arnold and Jim Nielsen; St. John Bosco High boys' coach Matt Hart and Loyola High boys' coach Jim Williamson.

Westphal was hired as Pepperdine's head coach last April after most recently serving as the head coach of the Phoenix Suns and the Seattle SuperSonics. The former All-American player at USC enjoyed a 12-year career in the NBA.

Trakh has compiled a 137-94 record in eight seasons at Pepperdine, and has led the Waves to four consecutive 20-win seasons. Prior to accepting the head women's position at Pepperdine in 1993, Trakh was the head girls' coach at Brea-Olinda High for 13 years and directed the Ladycats to four California state championships.
