Division V (& IV) Fresno Eagle
Classic in December--(Nov. 5, 2001)

We've been hearing for months about a Division V (and now IV with Southern Section realignment of divisions) tournament which claims to be bringing together 16 of the top schools in the division from all over the state, and apparently it's true: The Fresno Christian "Eagle Classic" will be held December 26-29 on the campus of Fresno Christian H.S. in a brand new gymnasium, and will bring teams from Northern, Central and SoCal, many of them the best teams in the small schools division.

Currently we know of 10 teams who have committed to attend, and they include:

Central Valley Christian - Visalia
La Jolla Country Day
St. Vincent
St. Bernard
Gardena Serra
Campbell Hall
Price
Rolling Hills Prep
Capital Christian - Sacramento

Hopefully we'll get brackets and the rest of the information on other teams attending. The Fresno Christian Tournament will, interestingly, also be happening at the same time as another traditionally strong small schools tournament, the Santa Maria Valley Christian Tournament, which last year also saw Fresno Christian, El Cajon Christian and Buckley compete against teams like Hesperia Christian, Santa Maria VCA and Holy Martyrs. This year's Santa Maria tournament will again have some of the top D-V teams, including Mission Prep (Central Section) which made it to the State Tournament last season, and Southern Section quarterfinalist Buckley (Southern Section). We can't be in two places at once, but we'll have reports from both tournaments.

And speaking of tournaments, we'll also be posting up a complete Southern Section list of tournaments in preparation for the upcoming start of the season. Stay tuned.
