The official CIF season started this week, and as we've done in years past, we will continue to pass along scores and game details where they are available and can be obtained either from those who send them to us or from the local papers.  If you know of a game that we missed, a score unreported, send it in along with whatever details you may have that you don't find below.

Chaparral 83, El Centro Central 40--Allen Craig had 24 points to pace Chaparral (1-0).

Pool Play

Brethren Christian 86, Liberty Christian 33-- Liberty (0-1) was led by Doney with 15;  BC (1-0) was led by Henson with 16, and Strong and Bodziak with 14 each.

Maranatha 52, St. Anthony 50-- Senior forward Rick Redic and senior guard David Rhoiney each scored 18 in the loss for St. Anthony's (0-1).  St. Anthonys scorers were Rhoiney 18, Redic 18, Anderson 5, Watkins, 4 Maniego 3, Gandia 2;  Maranatha scorers were Pettys 17, Gregorich 9, Buschel 7, Tang 5, Walker 3, Blume 3.  Score by quarters:  SA  13  12   10  15  --50;  Maran. 6  19  19  8--52.


Buena Park Tournament
Pool Play

Buena Park 59, Magnolia 43--Zach Barker scored 17 points and DeAndre Robinson added 11 points and eight rebounds to lead the
Coyotes (2-0) over the Sentinels (0-1). R.J. Weston scored 22 points for Magnolia (1-1).

Katella 73, Westminster 44--Pat Parker had 19 points and Keith Smith scored 16 for Katella (1-0). Westminster (0-1) was led by Thong Nguyen with 18 points.

La Palma Kennedy 48, Bolsa Grande 45-- Ike Njoku scored 15 points and 10 rebounds for Kennedy (2-0). Omar Amaral had 19 points for Bolsa Grande.


Gahr-Cerritos Tournament
Pool Play

Gahr 69, Marshall 46-- Senior guard Terry Coon and junior guard Marquis Williams combined for 26 points to lead the host Gladiators (1-0) over Marshall in a first round game.  Senior forward Joseph Purcell also scored 10 for Gahr, which will play Cabrillo in the second round on Thursday at 6:00 p.m.

Lakewood 72, Pacifica 47-- Senior point guard Eugene Carey had 18 points, 7 assists and 2 rebounds for the Lancers in their season opener.  Senior guard Tyrell McLauren added 16 points, 11 boards and 5 steals. 

Cypress 63, Downey 54-- Steve Topete scored 20 points to lead the Vikings (0-1) in the loss for Downey.

Cerritos 60, Bell 48-- Senior Kevin Sohn scored 15 points and senior guard Jason Hong added 14 more to lead the Dons (1-0) over Bell (0-1) in the first round.


La Habra Tournament
Pool Play

Rowland Heights 59, Santa Ana Calvary Chapel 46-- Larry Tieu scored 16 points for Rowland Heights (1-1). Jared Hurst scored 14 points, six blocked shots, six rebounds and three steals for Santa Ana Calvary Chapel (0-2).

El Modena 48, Savanna 47-- El Modena (1-1) was led by Rabb with 26, while Savanna (0-2) was led by Woods with 24 and Quezada with 13.

 


Loara Tournament

Loara 59, Dana Hills 58 --Bryce Sheldon had 28 points to lead host Loara (1-0) and Austin Marshburn made five three-pointers and had 15 points for Dana Hills (0-1).

Pomona 55, Troy 48-- Odell Howard scored 22 points and pulled down 10 rebounds,  while Damarian Woods had 14 points for Pomona.    James Milburne and Todd Thompson added six points each for Pomona (1-0).

 


Mission Viejo Diablo Classic
Pool Play

Mission Viejo 63, Santa Ana Valley 45--Travis Neisen scored 19 points and Jake Collins added 13 to lead Mission Viejo. Erik Engstrom finished with nine points and 10 rebounds and Kevin Stacey had 12 points for the Diablos (1-0). Alex Orgel led the Falcons (0-1) with 14 points.

Laguna Hills 66, Anaheim 47--Ross Carter scored 16 points and Marc Dimick added 15 to lead the Hawks (1-0) over the Colonists (0-1). Matt Donat finished with 11 points and 12 rebounds for the Hawks.

San Clemente 42, Oceanside 41--Beau Berendger scored 24 points for the Tritons (1-0). Jared Holcolm finished with five points and Josh Jones had four for the Tritons.

Corona 68, Garey 59--With Garey ahead 56-54 with two seconds left, Corona's Kevin Morow hit a two-point shot as time expired to send the opener of the Norte Vista Tournament into overtime. In the overtime period, Garey (0-2) starters Aaron Palmer and Ossar Arasshan fouled out, paving the way for Corona, which scored 12 points in the overtime period en route to a 68-59 victory at Riverside Notre Dame High School on Tuesday. The Vikings managed only three points in the overtime loss. Garey trailed by 11 points at halftime but used a full-court press and great defense and outscored Corona 34-23 in the second half Palmer finished with 20 points while Arasshan finished with 10 points in the loss for the Vikings. Garey will play at Riverside Norte Vista today against Yucaipa in the second round of pool play.

 


Mira Costa Tournament
First round

Carson 51, Torrance 49--Freshman Bryan Harvey scored 17 points  for Carson (1-0). Ekene Ibekwe did not play, along with two other starters, who were held out for disciplinary reasons.

Mira Costa 61, Banning 45--Daniel Williams scored 20 points for Mira Costa (1-0).

Tuesday's Games:

Fairfax 103, Gardena 40-- Evan Burns scored 27 points for Fairfax (1-0) in an easy first round win. .

Kaiser 75, Chaffey 54--If you read the LA Times then you read this:  "Rashard Fox scored 30 points for Kaiser in the win (1-0)."  On the other hand, if you read the Inland Valley Daily Bulletin, then you got this: "Chaffey's (0-1) Rashad Fox had 25 points, Eddie Kilgore had 11 points, Anthony Wilkerson had eight points and six rebounds in the loss. One of Chaffey's key returning players is still ineligible due to academic review. Chaffey plays at 4:30 p.m. against Moreno Valley Valley View at San Bernardino San Gorgonio High School.". . . .go figure.

Claremont 69, Montclair 42--Montclair's (0-2) Juan Fregoso had 14 points in its loss. Claremont's Cameron Munoz led all scorers with 15 points, four steals and four assists, Kenny Penn had 14 points and five rebounds, Ramar Green had six assists and six points and Shaddean Aaron had 11 points for Claremont (1-0). Claremont plays today at 6:30 p.m. in the Glendora Crown Tournement against Mater Dei.

Crescenta Valley 76, Westlake 53--Junior shooting guard Jimmy Goffredo scored 24 points while Chris Tarne added 16 for Crescenta Valley in the pool play win.

Harvard-Westlake 56, Canyon 45--Sophomore Brice Taylor scored 13 points for Harvard-Westlake. Chad Eichten scored 21 for Canyon (0-1).

Sherman Oaks Notre Dame 46, Verdugo Hills 41 --Beewlee Vallestoros scored 15 points for Notre Dame (1-0) . Daniel Dingman scored 12 points for Verdugo Hills (0-1).

Oxnard 53, Glendale 38-- Oxnard (1-0) point guard Lee Abair scored 20 points in the win. Hugo Guerrero scored 15 points for the Nitros (0-1).

 


Simi Valley Tournament
First Round

Moorpark 70, Santa Paula 58--Koorosh Adibzabeh scored 15 points, and Blake Sharpe added 13 points and five assists for Moorpark (1-0).

Rio Mesa 61, Calabasas 46--Daniel Bednar had 18 points and 10 rebounds for Rio Mesa (1-0). Forward Steve Saunders scored 13 points for the Calabasas Coyotes (0-1).

Royal 79, Monroe 57--Kyle Vondrak scored 19 points for Royal (1-0).

Taft 70, Ventura 60--Mustafa Asgharri scored 25 points as Taft (1-0) managed to come back from a three-point halftime deficit, outscoring Ventura, 21-9, in the third quarter. Brent Pinkerton had 25 points for Ventura (0-1)

A.B. Miller 77, Rancho Verde 74-- Jacob Ramirez scored 17 points, all  in the second half for AB Miller.  Jeremiah Ward added 13 points and six assists for the visiting Miller (1-0). Anthony Winston scored 28 points for Rancho Verde (0-2). Sophomore Corwin Ragland had six assists for A.B. Miller (1-0).

Alhambra 62, South Pasadena 42-- Scorers for Alhambra (1-0) were: Chavez 19, Chung 15, Nguyen 8, Breazeale 8, De La Fuente 6, Ly 4 and Carmichael 2.  South Pasadena (0-1) were Sanchez 12, Vance 11, Debuzman 4, Johnson 4, Dapia 3, Tsei 2, Kwon 2, Deng 2 and Finley 2.

Ambassador Christian 50, Calvary Chapel (Moreno Valley) 27--Jose Guzman had 17 points and Brent Martin added nine points to lead host Ambassador Christian (1-0). Brandon Guiden had eight points and Michael Esquivel added seven points in the win for the Dawgs.

Arroyo 64, Baldwin Park 43-- Kevin Zhang scored 28 points and 13 rebounds for Arroyo (1-0).    Kris Lewis had 10 points for Baldwin Park (0-1) in the loss.

Atascadero 71, San Luis Obispo 68--The Greyhounds, losers of eight of their last nine to end last season, used a hot-shooting fourth quarter to get past the Tigers 71-68 in a non-league game in Tiger Gym, scoring 23 points in the fourth quarter. Ian Jorgeson had 23 points and nine rebounds for San Luis Obispo, while Atascadero's Tom Walsh scored 16 points and pulled down nine rebounds. Atascadero freshman J.D. Berwick had 14 points.

Brentwood 64, Milken 44--details not reported.

Charter Oak 55, South Hills 43--Senior Sharif Elkhaldy scored a game-high 23 points for the Chargers. Terrance Brooks led the Huskies with 14

Cypress 63, Downey 54--Matt Reid finished with 27 points, 14 rebounds and eight assists to lead the Centurions (1-0) over the Vikings (0-1). Dominique Ricks scored 14 points for the Centurions.

El Monte 50, at Azusa 48--Juan Loza put back an offensive rebound at the buzzer to give the Lions a narrow victory over the Aztecs. Azusa's Justin Lalemand scored a game-high 24 points and Omar Ceja led El Monte with 20.   Dan Arechiga had 12 for El Monte.

El Rancho 63, Schurr 49--details not reported.

Fairmont Prep 63, Capistrano Valley Christian 43-- Steven Wandel scored 13 and William Washington scored 18 points for Fairmont Prep at home. (1-0). Ben Myers led Capistrano Valley Christian (0-1), with 12 points.

Hart 50, Quartz Hill 48--Hart (1-0) was led by Paul Gonzalez with 14.

Kern Valley 53, Taft 49--Kern Valley beat Central Section Taft in a season opener.  Kern Valley scoring : Hughes 20, Ludington 15, Dierck 12 Score by Quarters: Taft: 14 16 11 8--49  KV:16  8  10   19--53

La Serna 66, Bell Gardens 44--details not reported.

Lighthouse 77, Le Lycee 47--Scott Deal scored 28 points and Oscar Blackman 23 for Lighthouse (1-0). Le Lycee is 0-1.

Los Amigos 59, Saddleback 50-- Saddleback was led by Gonzalez with 26 in the loss, while Los Amigos was led by Degante with 13, Small with 12 and Bueweler with 12.

Newport Harbor 65, Huntington Beach 52--Tony Melum scored 25 points, Erick Peterson had 12, and Nedin Pajevich added 10 for host Newport Harbor (1-0) over the Sailors (0-1). 

Nogales 61, Rancho Cucamonga 59--Quentin Rogers scored 23 points to lead Nogales.  Jeremy Mack added 12 points and seven assists for Nogales (2-0).

Orangewood 57, St. Margaret's 51--Orangewood (1-0) was led by Melin with 13;  St. Margaret's (0-1) was led by Janczyk with 24.

Righetti 73, Santa Ynez 52--The Warriors' pressure on the perimeter was too much for the Pirates in the nonleague game. Ben Payne scored 19 points and Aaron Suluido 17 to lead Righetti. Matt McKinney scored 20 points and grabbed 13 rebounds, and Jeff Urton had 12 points and 12 boards for the Pirates.

Rio Hondo Prep 69, Hesperia Christian 65-- RHP (1-0) was led by Devon Drain with 37 points.  Joey Wellman had 8, Jon Poyner 7, Bill Ritter 6, James Moore 5, Eric Wennenberg 4 and Matt Heersma 2. Hesperia Christian (0-1) was led by Nate Patterson with 13, Josh Person with 3, Trevor Thompson with 11, Brian Glass with 25 and Aaron Shea 3.

San Gabriel 62, San Marino 43--Phillip Lai scored 20 points for the San Gabriel (1-0).  Johnny Tran had 16, Milo Alarcon 8, Steven Laganae 6 for San Gabriel.  San Marino was led by Mike Shia with 14.  San Marino is 0-1 on the season.

Santa Clarita Christian 82, Grace Brethern 41 --Caleb Sulham scored 20 points and pulled down 10 rebounds for Santa Clarita Christian (1-0).

St. John Bosco 95, Los Angeles Cathedral 24--Senior Giovanni St. Amant of St. John Bosco scored 25 points and pulled down 13 rebounds.  Eric Lane added 14 points and 10 assists for St. John Bosco (1-0).  St. Amant also shot 11 for 11 from the field. 

St. Joseph Santa Maria 78, Valley Christian Santa Maria 71--Joseph Tilley scored a team-high 19 points while teammate Matt DePriest came off the bench for 18 to lead the Knights to victory in their season opener. B. J. Adams added 16 points for St. Joseph (1-0).

Tarbut V'Torah 66, Calvary Baptist--Geoff Keith scored a game-high 25 points and dished out 9 assists for the Lions (1-0) . Josh Bauchman added 14, and Stephen Eghbali finished with 13 points and eight assists for the Lions. The Cougars are 0-1 on the season.

Temescal Canyon 80, Paloma Valley 22-- Josh Garrett scored 16 points for Temescal. Mike Peterson and Chuck Ellingwood added 14 for host Temescal Canyon (1-0).

Trabuco Hills 57, Aliso Nigue 43--Trabudo was led by Tudor with 25 and is now 1-0 on the season.  Aliso had no player in double figures and is 0-2 on the season.

Warren 48, Salesian 35-- Senior forward Ekber Djokovic and senior guard Dennis Moore each scored 11 points to help the Bears defeate the visiting Mustangs.

Westview 60, Coutin 44--James McIntyre had 22 points and Matt Eisenoff added 15 points for Westview (1-0). Coutin is 0-1.

Wilson (HH) 80, Don Lugo 54- Glenn Powers had 15 points, including eight in the fourth quarter, and Perris Kelly added eight points and nine rebounds in the loss for Don Lugo (0-1).

Zinsmeyer 71, Wilson Creek 53-- Zinsmeyer was led by Taylor with 10, Brown with 12 and Williams with 14.  Wilson Creed was led by Peters with 18 and Tim with 27.

El Camino 78, LACES 55--Ray Colston scored 20 points for El Camino (1-0).

Garfield 66, Wilson 42--Emmanuel Gutierrez scored 22 points for Garfield (1-0).

Hollywood 61, Van Nuys 51--Doshan Green had 12 points and Jonathan Rouzan added 11 points and five steals for Hollywood (1-0).

Roosevelt 71, Lincoln 39 --Marlon Parrales of Roosevelt scored 21 points.

USC-MAST 57, Elizabeth 43--Tayo Wesey had 26 points and 14 rebounds to lead USC-MAST (2-0).
