Yes, Another One-Day Event: Lynwood
Invitational Shootout--(Jan. 9, 2002)

What:   Lynwood Invitational Shootout
Where:   Lynwood High School
When   Saturday, January 19, 2002
Who:   8 high school teams, 4 games

Yes, just what we need, another one-day wonder, an extravaganza featuring four games, a day full of hoops at a single venue.  This one used to be called the "SoCal Basketball Classic" and before that it was called the "Poly-Lynwood Classic" or the "Poly-Artesia Classic" and now it's just called the "Lynwood Invitational Shootout."  Once held at the Pyramid, and then held at LA Southwest College, the event has switched  for the second year to Lynwood High School, the venue of choice for many such one-day events this season, in which some of the teams will have played there more often than they will have played at home.  Who's coming to this one.  We thought you'd never ask:

1:00 p.m.   Long Beach Cabrillo vs. Gardena Serra
3:00 p.m.   Verbum Dei vs. Lynwood
5:00 p.m.   Ayala vs. /Corona Centennial
7:00 p.m.   Long Beach Jordan vs. Long Beach Poly

Back when it was called the "Poly-Artesia Classic" the event was organized by Barbara Shotwell (whose son formerly played at Poly) and Joe Kapono (whose son Jason was at Artesia at the time). It's still apparently being run by B. Shotwell, and anyone with any questions on the event can reach her at ushotwell@aol.com or by calling (562) 924-5314 extension 4.  We have no idea how much tickets are, but if it's anything like past events, expect something like $8 for the whole day with a discount for students.
