CIF HS Games: Results & Details From

We're now in the middle of the heart of high school basketball season, with teams competing for league titles and playoff berths, and soon the jockeying for seeding in the respective brackets will start as playoffs approach.  Here's what we know, gathered from reports sent to us from team representatives, coaches, players and parents, as well as what we've been able to gather from local newspapers and websites. If you know of a game that we missed, a score that is unreported, or some details that we're missing, send it in via e-mail.

Academy League

St. Margaret's 54, Sage Hill 45-- Sage Hill (4-6, 1-2) closed an 18-point deficit to within five with a fourth-quarter rally, but couldn't get closer against St. Margaret's (7-8, 3-1).  Foul trouble by key players Mike Fitzhugh who finished with 13 points and Kevin Joyce with 19 helped the Tartans.  Junior point guard Erik Williams had eight rebounds and seven points for the Lightning. Agape League

Antelope Valley Christian 62, Joshua Springs 58 --Jeremiah Nurse scored 20 points, and Phillip Okonma had nine points, 11 rebounds and six blocked shots for Antelope Valley Christian (11-5, 3-0 in league). Andre Conner scored 24 points for Joshua Springs (10-4, 1-2 in league) and had 15 rebounds.   Nate Rynning added 14 points of his own. The Lightning play Apple Valley Christian on Friday.

Hesperia Christian 72, Bethel Christian 24 --Josh Hamilton scored 21 (four three pointers) to lead Hesperia Christian (11-5, 2-1) at Bethel Christian is 0-3 in league.   The  Patriots shot 58% from behind the 3 point line, for 33 of their 72 points. Juniors Bryan Glass and Jesse McDonald had 19 and 12 points respectively. Lionel Mongiano of the Eagles had  11 points in the loss. Patriot senior Cody Archer was the leading rebounder  with 8 rebounds and sophmore point guard Trevor Wagstaffe had 6 assists to go with his 9 points. HCS got 30 points from their bench.


Almont League

Bell Gardens 87, Mark Keppel 81 (2 OT) --Bell Gardens (5-14, 1-2) was led by Arcenio Ramirez who scored 30 points as Bell Gardens managed to tie the score in regulation after trailing by as many as 16 points.

Montebello 62, San Gabriel 57 --Ian Parks had 16 points and 15 rebounds to lead visiting Montebello (13-6, 3-0). Milo Alarcon had 15 points for San Gabriel. Christian Saenz scored 14 points and Jose Alvarado had 12 for Montebello. The Oilers outscored the Matadors 23-13 in the second quarter.

Schurr 52, Alhambra 47 --Tim Fung had 13 points for host Schurr (7-8, 3-0). Erich Chung had 11 points for Alhambra (8-11, 1-2).


Alpha League

Village Christian 53, Los Angeles Baptist 45 --Village Christian (6-10, 1-1) was led by John Mark Wendler with 14 points and five blocks.  Los Angeles Baptist (4-12, 1-2) was paced by Austin Nicholson with a game-high 17 points.  Village Christian trailed by four point going into the fourth quarter, but went on a 10-2 run for the win, outscoring the Knights 23-10 in the final period. Jacob Briggs added 12 points and 14 rebounds for the Crusaders. Daniel Barrett added 11 points, five assists, and four steals. Arrowhead League

Sherman Indian 85, CSDR 44 --Schyler Vaughn pulled down nine rebounds and Leon Ivins dished out six assists to help lift Riverside Sherman Indian (6-5, 2-1) past California School for the Deaf, Riverside (7-7, 4-4) for the Arrowhead League victory.   CSDR  -- Moreno 2, Amaro 10, Scott 20, Smith 8, Brown 2, Cayton 2. Sherman Indian  -- Lee 12, Emerson 13, Ivins 16, Palone 11, Vaughn 14, Blackhawk 4, Steele 15. Halftime score -- Sherman Indian 40-20. Three-point goals -- Scott, Lee 2, Palmone, Steele 3. Baseline League

Glendora 87, Don Lugo 38 --Larry Monroe had 24 points to lead host Glendora (16-1, 4-0).  Dennis Baker had 16 points for Don Lugo (4-17, 0-4) in its loss.   Mike Mehanna and Spencer Foster had 13 points apiece for Glendora.

Chino 57, Walnut 55--details not available

Upland 60, Claremont 61-- Upland rallied from a seven-point fourth-quarter deficit to stun Claremont 61-60 on Tye-Juan Hatter's 3-pointer with 10 seconds remaining in a Baseline League thriller at Upland High on Tuesday. The Highlanders (14-5l, 3-1 league) were led by Hatter who scored a team-high 17 points and grabbed 10 rebounds.  Claremont (14-6, 2-2) was led by Shaddean Aaron with 20, who did not start on Tuesday.  Cameron Munoz scored 15 points, Todd Martin had 13 and Eric Holland added 12 for Upland.


Bay League

Redondo 65, Inglewood 41 --Wendell White led Redondo (14-5, 6-0) with 23 points and Adam Zahn added 14 as the Seahawks blasted Inglewood (13-4, 3-2) in the first half.   Inglewood again played without its star forward DeAngelo Collins who suffered a knee injury against Mira Costa last week.  Inglewood managed just three points in the first quarter, and Redondo jumped out to a lead of 32-5 at one point in the first half as Inglewood went scoreless for more than 8 minutes in the half, trailing 34-15 at the break. In the third quarter it was more of the same as Redondo started off with an 8-2 run.   Ray Reed led Inglewood with 10 points.

Santa Monica 43, Mira Costa 34 --Brett DeAngelis scored 15 points to lead Santa Monica (10-8, 4-2). Mira Costa is 9-9, 3-3.


Century League

Anaheim Canyon 103, Orange 83 --Derron Putnam had 26 points and Tremayne Didier had 25 for host Canyon (7-11, 2-1). Quenton Parker had 25 points and Justin Collins had 22 for Orange (13-7, 0-3).

El Modena 54, Foothill 52 --Gerard Rabb had 18 points, including two free throws late in the fourth quarter, helping El Modena past Foothill, 54-52, in a Century League boys basketball game at Foothill High on Tuesday.  Tavon Robinson added 13 points and Dominic Robinson 11 for El Modena (11-9, 2-1), which held on after leading, 40-30, entering the fourth quarter.  Francisco Flores led Foothill (10-8, 1-2) with 17 points.  El Modena tied the game at the free-throw line with 1:15 remaining and Rabb hit the winning basket with 40 seconds left to play.  Brandt Bangs finished with 11 for Foothill.

Villa Park 78, Santa Ana Valley 38 --Sean Phaler scored 17 points and had 8 rebounds, while teammate Kyle Hogan added 12 points and seven assists for host Villa Park (17-2, 3-0). David Werdel scored 15 points for Santa Ana Valley. (12-7, 1-2).


Christian League

Loma Linda Academy 61, Ontario Christian 57 --Ontario Christian started the game with an 11-1 run, and led by as much as 14 at one point. Loma Linda was able to chip away at the lead to draw close, and converted all 11 of their free throw attempts in the fourth quarter, sophomore guard Chris Purdom making five, as Loma Linda won. Chris Purdom scored 23 points for Loma Linda Academy (11-4,  3-2). Greg Talen scored 22 points for Ontario Christian (14-4, 4-2).  Travis Hoekstra had 14.  Loma Linda shot 11-of-11 from the free throw line in the final quarter.  Loma Linda -- Prior 14, Valdez 2, Rivinius 6, Purdom 23, Stottlemyer 6, Nelson 8, Newby 2. Murrieta Calvary Chapel 70, Linfield 42-- Calvary Chapel (9-8, 1-4 league) led 31-22 at the half, and put the game away in the third quarter. Noah Denny started the period with a jumper, which was followed by baskets from Ryan Evans and Luke Wilkerson to give the Warriors a 37-22 lead.  Evans led the Warriors with 24 points and six rebounds. Wilkerson added 19 points seven rebounds and 10 assists, and Denny finished with 16 and seven rebounds. Freshmen Zach Wold and Chuck Wilson both finished with 12 points for Linfield.  Linfield -- Wold 12, Wilson 12, Durarte 2, Lofranco 6, Rodriguez 4, Beckman 4. Western Christian 51, Arrowhead Christian 46--The Eagues dropped their third straight, falling to 2-3 in league behind a team-high 11 points from Josh Cloud.  Josh Breckley was held to just six points.  Blake Allison led Western Christian with 16 points.


Citrus League

AB Miler 99, Redlands East Valley 66-- Junior 6-0 guard Jeremiah Ward had 16 points and five assists for the Rebels (2-1, 16-4) as they defeated the visiting Wildcats (0-3) in a Citrus Belt League game. Senior 5-6 guard Greg Pruitt had 11 points for A.B. Miller. Senior 6-4 forward Marcus Allen had 11 points and six rebounds. Sophomore 6-2 forward Bobby Kovach had 10 points and seven rebounds. Senior 6-0 guard T.J. Smith had 11 points and five steals.

Eisenhower 80, Redlands 39 --Cory McJimson had 30 points and 11 rebounds to lead host Eisenhower (16-2, 3-0) over Redlands (8-10, 1-2). Sean Marshall added 16 points and Johnny Dukes had nine points in the win for the Eagles. Redlands played hard, but was   overmatched by Ike's athletic players. Ryan Rogers led the scoring with 10 points for the Terriers, who struggled from the field. Redlands hit just 2-of-10 three-pointers. Fontana 86, Rialto 77--Ira Graham had a career high 38 points and Daryl Diggins added 14 points as Fontana (6-8, 2-1) ousted Rialto (1-2, 10-9) in a Citrus Belt League contest at Rialto High on Tuesday.  Gold Okolugbo also scored 14 for the Steelers. Sean Green was Rialto's high scorer with 20 points with teammate Luther Hall contributing 19


Delphic League

Brentwood 90, Pacific Hills 69 --Nick Henry scored 22 points and Brandon Nishimura had 20 points for Brentwood (17-3, 3-1 in league). Pacific Hills fell to 1-2 in league.

Campbell Hall 64, Whitney 52 --Darryl Harris scored 22 points and Matt Llewelyn added 17 for host Campbell Hall (1-3 in league). David You scored 12 points Whitney (9-8, 0-3).


Desert Sky League

Barstow 48, Granite Hills 44 --Willie Buford had 12 points for host Barstow. Ramell Mitchell had 12 points for Granite Hills (5-9, 1-3).

Ridgecrest Burroughs 88, Victory Valley 81 (OT) --Travis Kincaid scored 21 points, Karl Williams and Chris Woodson had 19 each and Pat Graham scored seven points in overtime for visiting Ridgecrest Burroughs (8-7, 1-2). DeJesus Brown scored 14 points and Michael Thompson had 12 for Victor Valley (15-4, 2-1).


Freedom League

Rio Rancho 104, South Bay 23 --Kevin Tyler scored 40 points and Jeffrey Dixon added 20 points for Rio Rancho (9-4).

Whitewater 90, Los Pinos 39-- Luis Hayward scored 29 points, nine assists, two blocks,  and four steals as Whitewater (13-0, 3-0) remained perfect with the Freedom League victory.  Steven Adams scored 15, Fisiha Tebremichael scored 14 and Frank Coleman added 13 for the Saints.   Los Pinos -- LeSage 2, Smith 9, Pushckor 1, Snow 9, Doleman 3, Denning 2, King 4, Doty 9.  Whitewater -- Haywood 29, Gebremichael 14, Poss 8, Coleman 13, S. Wilson Creek 72, Twin Pines 18-- Sophomore 6-2 forward Jerome Powell had 20 points, 12 rebounds, six steals, four assists, and two blocks for the Eagles (4-8, 1-1) in their rout of the Bobcats (2-10, 0-3) in a Freedom League game. Jerome Bushbaum and Tobias Robertson combined for 24 first-half points as Yucaipa Wilson Creek jumped to a 31-11 halftime lead then breezed to a Freedom League victory. Robertson added six steals, five assists and six rebounds. Bushbaum and Robertson, who each scored 12 first-half points, finished with 18 points and 20 points respectively. Mojave 78, Vasquez 38 --L.D. Cox scored 21 points to lead host Mojave (8-7, 4-1). Vasquez is 1-10, 0-5.

Rosamond 64, Desert 49 -- Roberto Landaverde scored 16 points to lead Rosamond (14-4, 6-0). Brandon Murray added 13 points and 13 rebounds for Rosamond and Craig Tunnell had 15 and seven assists. Anthony Bernard had 20 points for Desert (7-4, 4-1).


Ivy League

Canyon Springs 77, Valley View 49 -- Carlton Arnwine scored 11 of his 19 points in the first half to lead Canyon Springs (14-6, 3-0) to a 19-points halftime lead en route to an Ivy League victory over Valley View (5-14, 0-3). Brandon Woods grabbed 20 rebounds and Alfonso James had 10 assists for the Cougars.  Valley View  -- Nwigwe 2, Overton 4, Castile 3, Rogers 7, White 6, Barrett 2, Slaughter 22, Williams 3. Moreno Valley 75, JW North 72 --Darryl Barnett made a 23-foot shot as the buzzer sounded to lift Moreno Valley (12-8, 2-1) past JW North (5-12, 0-3) in an Ivy League game. Moreno Valley had to go the length of the court with just two second remaining. Tim Bundy heaved the ball past midcourt, where Barnett caught it, turned and shot. Prince Dillon had 17 points and eight rebounds off the bench for Moreno Valley. North's Ron Howard, a transfer from Moreno Valley and Riverside County's leading scorer at 28.2 points per game, scored a game high 30.  JW North -- Howard 30, Acevedo 14, Esquivel 14, Wright 6, Morton 2, Walter 2, Martinez 4.  Moreno Valley -- Butler 21, Acevedo 3, Bundy 2, Barnett 19, Nicholson 6, Marshall 2, Dillon 17, Thomas 5.  Halftime score -- North 45-36. Riverside Poly 63, Arlington 38 --Senior forward Jeremy Lopez scored 14 points in the first quarter to help Riverside Poly (16-4, 3-0 ) to a 20-6 lead to end the first, en route to an Ivy League victory over Riverside Arlington (7-12, 1-2). Liberty League

Yeshiva 72, Buckley 46 --Adi Isaacs scored 29 points (three three-pointers) for Yeshiva (11-4, 9-0), and Mike Pollack had 20 as the Panthers broke a close first half game wide open in the second half. Nadav Geft had 12 points for Yeshiva.  Buckley (9-4, 3-1) was led by point guard David Gale with 11 (5 assists, three steals, two three-pointers) and Baron Abdul-Mansour with 12 and 12 rebounds. Yeshiva has five more league games remaining;  Buckley has 10. The two teams will meet again in their final league game of the season on February 7 at Buckley.


Metro League

Desert Chapel 94, Calvary Chapel Riverside 30-- Brothers Paul and John Hackbarth combined for 34 points and led the Eagles to their seventh win of the season. John Hackbarth led all scorers with 22 points. Paul, the point guard, finished with 12 points and seven assists.  Desert Chapel (7-3, 2-1) was also led by Reed Ritchie as he scored 16 points, grabbed eight rebounds, and dished out seven assists.  The Eagles finished with 12 different scorers, and were paced by a 33 point second quarter, as they took a 57-17 lead at the half.  Junior forward Josh Paugh scored eight points and grabbed nine rebounds for Calvary Chapel.

Lake Arrowhead Christian 45,  Cal Lutheran (Wildomar) 44 --Down by two points, sophomore guard John Moody made a three-point basket with five seconds remaining to win it for host Lake Arrowhead Christian (5-6, 3-2). Gerry Conedy had 12 points and Steven Kinsley had nine points, 14 rebounds and eight steals for the Eagles. Robert Betts had 23 points before fouling out for Cal Lutheran (1-10, 1-2). Santa Ana Calvary Chapel 74, Maranatha 52 --Joey Jones had 20 points and nine rebounds and David Mamelli had 12 points and eight rebounds for host Calvary Chapel (7-9, 2-1). The host Eagles built a 42-19 halftime lead against the Minutemen (9-11, 1-2) and won going away.

Orange Lutheran 78, Whittier Christian 36--David Heim had 12 points and Sean Luecke added 12 points and eight rebounds for the Lancers (10-8, 3-0) against the visiting Heralds. Tim Albeanu had 13 points for Whittier Christian (5-17, 0-4).

Ventura County Christian 41, San Fernando Valley Academy 32 --Will Arthur scored 17 points for Ventura County Christian (2-2, 2-0). San Fernando Valley Academy is 1-7, 1-1. CV's Rusty Rivera had 13 rebounds and 8 points, and Brian Kang had 9 rebounds. Armen Baghdasarian   scored 16 points and had four assists for Hoover (8-10, 0-3). Muir 56, Glendale 31 --Ryan Hollins scored 15 points for visiting Muir (18-0, 3-0). Isa Hall had 10 points for Glendale (9-10, 1-2).  Seth Davis grabbed 12 rebounds.

Pasadena 72, Arcadia 57-- Pasadena survived a slow start before smothering the host Apaches with a full-court press and rolling to a 72-57 victory.  The Apaches (12-7, 0-3) came out red-hot in the early minutes and took a 13-4 first-quarter lead behind 10 of Brent Dohling's game-high 25 points.  Pasadena Pasadena (13-4, 3-0) finished with 12 steals, including five by point guard Duwan Rice. Dino Wilburn scored 19 points to lead the Bulldogs. MacKenzie Clark had 15 and Brandon Sweeney 11 for the Bulldogs.  Donte Owens scored 16, including two 3-pointers, for Arcadia.

Cajon 87, Pacific 53--Senior forward Donovan Morris had 24 points, 11 assists and eight rebounds as the Cowboys (15-4, 3-0) in San routed the Pirates (0-3). Daniel Cooper added 13 points, Tony Dandridge 12, Rummel Clark 11 and Romale Porter 11 for Cajon, which outscored Pacific 32-9 in the third quarter. San Gorgonio 71, San Bernadino 55 --Khorry Lewis had 23 points to lead host San Gorgonio (14-5, 2-1). Senior 6-6 center Thomas Tyler had 11 points, 16 rebounds, and four blocks for San Gorgonio. Junior 5-10 guard Kevin Houston had 13 points and eight assists.

Yucaipa 70, Colton 66-- Senior 6-1 guard Thad Orr had 22 points including five three-point goals for the Thunderbirds (15-3, 2-1) as they defeated the Yellowjackets in a San Andreas League game. Junior 6-2 forward Bryan Sorenson scored 28 points for Colton. Senior 6-3 forward Erik Simmons had 18 points and went 10-for-13 from the foul line for Yucaipa. Yucaipa guard Matt King hit a three-pointer with 25 seconds left to put Yucaipa ahead, and sank a free-throw with seven seconds left to seal the San Andreas League victory over Colton.  Colton -- Evans 8, Sorensen 28, Wilcox 2, Williams 1, Celestin 13, Beard 8, Farquharson 6.  Yucaipa -- King 5, Craig 4, Simmons 18, Orr 22, Brown 8, Griefnow 7, Renich 6. San Gabriel Academy 69, Coutin 40 --Jason Killebrew had 14 points SGA (10-4, 7-0). Tico Espinoza had 12 points for Coutin (0-8, 0-6).


Victory League

Bloomington Christian 52, Desert Christian Bermuda Dunes 45-- Josh Jordan scored 25 points, including 7 of 8 free throws down the stretch, as Bloomington Christian defeated Bermuda Dunes Desert Christian, snapping the Conquerors' 15-game league winning streak. Bloomington Christian led by 14 points entering the final quarter only to have Desert Christian cut the lead to two points with 1:30 left to play. Jordan made his free throws down the stretch to hold off Desert Christian. Jason Bluedorn led the Conquerors with 14 points. James Hoestroy and Richard Mangus each added nine points in the loss for Bermuda Dunes Desert Christian (5-9, 2-1).  The Conquerors were held to only three points in the third quarter and went 1-for-12 from the field. Milken 81, Highland Hall 70 --Ari Friedland and Matt Eliaser each scored 12 points to lead Milken (8-7, 4-1) at Highland Hall. Sawczuka scored 30 for Highland Hall. Wesson scored 25 for Highland Hall.

Santa Clarita Christian 79, West Valley Christian 61 --Daniel Duncan scored 26 points for Santa Clarita Christian (11-4, 5-0). Micah Panama added 18 points for the visiting Cardinals in the Westside League win.

Desert Hot Springs 81, Central 74-- [intersectional]--Down by as many as 16 points in the fourth quarter, the Golden Eagles put on an impressive run to finish the game and picked up their fourth win of the season. Greg McSwain led the Golden Eagles with 22 points. Jason Edmonds added 20 points and Mateo Ortega chipped in 16.

Lompoc 66, Santa Ynez 48 --Anthony English sank five three-point baskets and scored 21 points, and Joel Smith scored 18 points for Lompoc (11-5). Matt McKinney had 18 points and eight rebounds for Santa Ynez (7-10).  and teammate Jeff Urton (10 points) was the only other Pirate to score in double figures. Silverado 97, Rim of the World 76 --Ryan Diggs scored 21 points, 12 rebounds and five steals for Silverado (12-7),  as the visiting Hawks (12-7) defeated the Fighting Scots (8-11) in a nonleague game. Sophomore 6-2 guard Jamie Lester added 20 points, five rebounds and five assists for Silverado, which outscored Rim 34-18 in the second quarter. Senior 5-10 guard Virgil Wilkins added 12 points and six rebounds, while junior 6-5 forward Aesh Dabbas had 10 points and 11 rebounds in the victory. Kyle Rattet had 20 points 12 on three-pointers for Rim, while Kurt Oliver had 14 points.

St. John Bosco 86, Westminster 39 --Giovonni St. Amant made eight of 11 shots in three quarters of play and had 20 points for 19th-ranked St. John Bosco (18-3). Eric Lane had 13 points and eight assists for the Braves.

Stoneridge Prep 85, Boys' Republic 67-- Jamal McGee had 33 points and 15 rebounds and John Flannigan added 23 points and five assists, but the Rams (9-2, 5-0) fell short to the Wildcats

Downtown Business Magnet 86, Valley Alternative 80 --DTBM (1-2, 1-2) was led by Kahzah Mims and Kevin Dork who each scored 19 points.

King Drew 85, USC-MAST 52 --King Drew (8-8, 2-0) was led by Gary Quintanilla and Marvin Mills who both scored 14 points while Clarence Richardson added 13 points and 11 rebounds, and Rayvaughn Phillips finished with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

LACES 64, Foshay Magnet 45 --LACES (4-12, 3-0) was led by Aaron Burrus with 22 points in the win over Foshay (1-2). 

SOCES 86, Marlton 46 --Darren Katz scored 24 points to lead Sherman Oaks CES (2-5, 2-1). James Cannon added 20 points for the Knights.


Western League

Westchester 93, Palisades 51 --The Comets (15-1, 5-0) were led by Brandon Heath's 16 points and Keith Everage who had 10 points and 11 rebounds in the win over Palisades (11-6, 2-3).
