Stanford's Casey Jacobsen Declares
Draft; Borchardt To Follow?--(Apr. 3, 2002)
According to Andy Katz, writing for ESPN.com, Stanford junior Casey Jacobsen (6'-6" Jr. G/F) from Glendora HS, has thrown his name into the NBA draft. According to Katz, Jacobsen will not retain an agent and thus will preserve his right to return to school for his senior season. According to Katz, teammate Curtis Borchardt (6'-11" Jr. C) is also expected to declare for the draft as well. Here's the text of the article, which can also be found at the link above. As soon as Stanford distributes its anticipated press release, we'll post it here as well.
Jacobsen declares but won't sign with agent
By Andy Katz
Stanford junior Casey Jacobsen, the Pac-10's leading scorer this season, has declared for the NBA draft.
Jacobsen, however, also said he will not sign with an agent, leaving open the possibility that he'll return to the Cardinal for his senior season.
Jacobsen's teammate, junior Curtis Borchardt, is expected to follow Jacobsen's lead. Both players, according to NBA scouts, are expected to be taken in the first round.
The deadline for underclassmen to declare for the June 26 draft is May 12. They have until June 19 to remove their names from selection.
Jacobsen, a 6-foot-6 swingman, averaged 22 points per game in the conference. The Cardinal finished 20-10 overall and in a four-way tie for second in the Pac-10 at 12-6.
Stanford, an eighth seed in the NCAA Tournament, was eliminated by Kansas in the second round of the Midwest Regional 86-63. Jacobsen scored 24 points in the loss.
Borchardt had 17 double-doubles this season for the Cardinal and led the Pac-10 in rebounding (11.4 per game).
