Tony Melum Signs With D-II
Colorado Mines--(May 10, 2002)

As we said yesterday, we sometimes overlook D-II without really meaning to, so we'll pass this one along, which was actually published in the LA Times about a week and a half ago.  Barry Faulkner, a Times sportswriter, reported that Tony Melum (6'-6" Sr. F) from Newport Harbor HS, has signed with the Colorado School of Mines, a Division II program.  Melum had been recruited by several Ivy League schools and had taken a few visits, but ultimately chose to focus his recruiting in the West, looking at schools like Seattle, UC Davis and Chico State, mostly D-II or D-III schools.  According to Faulkner's article, Melum, who was twice named to the All-CIF Southern Section team, averaged 21.5 ppg last season.  Melum played for Dinos Trigonis' Belmont Shore travel squads for the past few years.   The Colorado School of Mines is located just outside Denver, in Golden, Colorado, and competes in the Rocky Mountain Conference.
