We've seen the message boards here at SoCalHoops bombarded by Jack Pollon in the past few months with news of his various Slam Jam Summer Tournaments, Shootouts, and Showcase events, as well as his camps, etc.    So we didn't really think one of our Daily Articles would mean much in the grand scheme of things because there's probably not a person in Southern California who has visited the board who hasn't seen something about the Summer Slam Jam Tournament which will take place July 12-14 at Cleveland HS in the San Fernando Valley.  Likewise, the teams and schedules have been posted but we'll do it once again, so don't say we didn't pass this one along for those of you who won't be at the Fullcourt Press Summer Showcase, which takes place during the same time frame at the Warrior Center in Cypress.

The July 12-14 Slam Jam Tournament will feature the following teams in the following pools:

Pool A Pool B Pool D Pool C
Cleveland HS
Rolling Hills Prep
San Gabriel Academy
Reseda
Agoura
Hillcrest Christian (GH)
Chaminade

5:50 p.m. Third Place
7:00 p.m Championship Game

Actually, we've pretty much made up the schedule for the last day in terms of what games we'd expect to see during the time slots that Jack provided to us.    We know for certain that the finals will be scheduled at 7:00 p.m. and theoretically, you ought to see the third and fifth place games in the order we've listed them in order to have a suitable break before the two teams in the finals get to play, but then again, anything can and probably will happen. The only thing we know for certain about the last day is the time of each game.  Who you'll see in each of these games will depend upon what happens in pool play.

We also have no idea how much the admission fee will be to enter the gym at this tournament, but if it's anything like past events organized by Jack Pollon, you should expect to pay about $5 for admission, which is reasonable.  If you have questions about the tournament, the teams playing and the like, call Jack at 818-680-3923.

Again, this is not an NCAA certified event, so you won't see any Division I college coaches in attendance, but there will likely be some D-II, D-III and NAIA and JUCO coaches visiting from time to time to observes some of the players they're recruiting.  And aside from any recruiting angle, tournaments are just plain fun, so if you want to see some of the better players in the Valley region playing with their high school teams, this will be one of the spots to check out.
