Winter Slam Jam Tourney @ Reseda
Cleveland: Complete Bracket--(Nov. 19, 2002)

What:

Winter Slam Jam Tournament @ Cleveland HS

When:

Dec. 9-14, 2002

Where:

Cleveland HS

Reseda, CA

Who:

16 Top LA City & Southern Section Teams

This is Jack Pollon's day to supply us with info, and he's sent a lot of it today (with more to follow in the coming weeks), and first and foremost,  understand that Jack is the principal organizer of the Slam Jam Winter Tournament this year at Cleveland HS so this is a tourney that he is not merely "familiar" with,  he knows it inside and out since he's the guy running it.

Who's coming?  A pretty impressive list of teams for a small tournament,  and considering this is only the second year that the tournament has been running, Jack has attracted some very good teams from around the region.  No. 1 seed Crenshaw will be loaded again this year even though Marcus Williams has departed for Oak Hill and greener pastures (more about them shortly).  Sylmar, which hosted the tournament last year, lost a lot to graduation, but even though they'll be young, they're still considered as among the top three teams in the SF Valley region's LA City Section contingent. No. 2 seed Rolling Hills Prep will be the next most promising team, and given what RHP coach Brian Knigin told us this past weekend about his team, they will be solid from top to bottom and will feature not just one top prospect as most people think, but at least two others who are receiving serious recruiting attention along with Curtis Allen (6'-5" G/F) who has reportedly committed to USC as a junior.   Others who could also challenge in this tournament will be Long Beach Cabrillo, Hart, and Perhaps Palmdale or Reseda.  Curiously though, even though Cleveland HS is playing host to the event, the Cleveland Cavaliers are not playing in the tournament;  Cleveland instead had been scheduled to play LA Dorsey at Dorsey during the same time this tournament was schedule,  but that changed lately when Dorsey's notriously old gym suffered a severe fire and was closed for the foreseeable future.....but we digress.  This is about the Winter Slam Jam... and this year, Cleveland isn't in it.

This is the bracket for this year's tournament (without the consolation and third place games shown).  Suffice it to say, the Championship will be played on Saturday at 7:15 p.m. and will be preceded by the third place game at 5:30 pm.   Those games will be preceded on Saturday by various other consolation and runner-up games.   Here's the bracket.
